FAQ

FAQ - ENCLOSED AQUATIC ECOSYSTM KIT

What is an enclosed aquatic ecosystem kit ?

The idea is to create an aquatic ecosystem in an environment that's sealed off from the outside. All vital processes take place within this environment, without any outside help or equipment. The ecosystem uses natural light and surrounding heat as its energy sources.

Can I put several species of plants in my ecosystem ?

Yes, you can include all of the species mentioned in the user manual.

Can I include other species than those that are mentioned ?

Yes, you can include other species as well.

Why did you choose these species ?

These species were chosen because they are easy to find, cheap, but especially because of their resistance and usefulness in an enclosed environment.

Why isn't there a container (bowl, etc…) in the kit ?

You can choose whatever you like provided that it's transparent, can be tightly sealed and does not exceed one or two litres (the quantity of substrate per kit is designed for two one-litre ecosystems.) It can be a coffee pot or a nice "designer" bowl.

Can I include fish ?

We strongly discourage the inclusion of fish.

My ecosystem seems to be unhealthy, what should I do ?

Unfortunately, and for many reasons, it is possible that it doesn't survive since plants can die. In this case, open it, recover the animals and the substrate and start once again with healthy plants, while following the procedures in the manual.

Important: no results can be guaranteed – Do not release plants or animals in the environment, as you might disrupt the ecosystems.

FAQ – NATURAL AQUARIUM KIT

What is a natural aquarium ?

The idea behind this method is based on the same exact process as nature, without the assistance of equipment.

Why isn't there an aquarium in the kit ?

You can choose whatever suits you best. You might already have a small aquarium at home. The quantity of substrate is designed for a 6-litre (maximum) aquarium.

Example: 25cm x 15 cm x 15cm.

Can I include fish in my micro-aquarium ?

We discourage the inclusion of fish within this volume.

Will there be maintenance involved ?

Maintenance will be minimal. You will have to verify the good health of the plants and animals, complete evaporation if need be, feed the animals and… contemplate it.

How often will I have to feed the animals ?

If you have very few animals (2 or 3 small snails), they will obtain most of their food from the ecosystem. Add a few flakes from time to time.

What kind of food should I feed to invertebrates (molluscs and crustaceans ?

Flaked food for exotic fish is quite suitable.

Do I need to add fertiliser to the plants ?

You don't need to add any fertiliser. The nutritional substrate will furnish mineral contents for many months. Animal and plant waste as well as leftover food are an additional source of nutrients for your plants.
